Sujiyu Onsen is famous as a health spa where people come to have their ills treated with the thermal waters. Asahiya's simple Japanese-style rooms are wood paneled. There are separate bathing facilities for men and women. The indoor baths are in large, old wooden tubs. Outside are two large rotenburo, landscaped open-air Japanese baths. The water is classified as sulfur, and also contains carbon. It is famous for softening and detoxifying the skin. Bathing is also said to benefit those with nervous disorders and circulatory problems. Drinking the water is said to be great for settling upset stomachs.
