A small theater with a big image, Asbestoskan is the place that genuine Butoh fans head for. Run by Akiko Motofuji, the widow of legendary Tatsumi Hijikata, one of the founding fathers of this modern Japanese dance form, Asbestoskan is more than just a theater, it is almost a "temple of dance." In addition to dance performances, films are shown and workshops are held. The only drawback is that the theater is quite far from the station and entails a 25-minute walk or a 15-minute bus ride. Still, that should not deter a real Butoh fan. Admission: JPY1,000-JPY3,000.
