The descriptions of early scrolls dating from the 8th century remain--you can still catch fish in the lake and grill them for a feast. The inn offers guests a choice of well-equipped Japanese or Western-style rooms. Separate men's and women's hot-spring bathing facilities comprise modern indoor baths in large oval pools. Outside, next to the river, are two landscaped pools. The water is classified as calcium sulfate with sodium chloride and is good for treating skin diseases, surface wounds, post-operative rehabilitation, rheumatism and arthritis. It is also said to have cosmetic benefits, whitening sallow complexions and freckles.
