The 8th of April is designated in Japan as a day for celebrating the Buddha's birthday. This auspicious day is marked with Hana Matsuri, or Flower Festival, during which devotees visit temples throughout the city and pour amacha (sweet tea) over the statue of the Buddha. This ancient ceremony is observed at all Buddhist temples not just in Tokyo but throughout Japan. Zozoji temple in central Tokyo is a convenient location for people residing or visiting the capital. Date: Tuesday 8 April every year Admission: Free.
