Ah! Yatsugatake! That green resort area where the wealthy go to ski in the winter, and frolic in the summer. If only the rest of us working stiffs were so lucky! Well, we can be, somewhat. This restaurant gives you the opportunity to try a taste of Yatsugatake without turning into Nelson Rockefeller. Karamatsutei serves Yatsugatake-style soba, which means they boil their noodles in the pure mountain water of the area. The tsuyu (sauce) is also made with the same. A favorite on the menu is the buckwheat noodles topped with watercress and mountain vegetables.
